About the artist:
Monica Schmidt was born and raised in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. She is a nurse of 17 years and a self-taught abstract painter. Her father introduced her to art at a young age and encouraged her creativity. Her arts education consisted of going to the Art Institute of Chicago with her dad where she learned of his inspirations and influences: Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, and Matisse. After the death of her father she lost her creative spark.
It wasn’t until she entered adulthood and suffered the loss of her grandmother that she rediscovered her creativity. Painting started as a therapeutic endeavor to improve her mental health. She found painting stimulating and fulfilling as well as therapeutic. Monica has been inspired and influenced by many sources but is drawn to abstract figurative. Her art is constantly evolving through experimentation and inspiration because of her passion for different mediums and subjects.
Monica is a mental health advocate and shares her art as a message to let others know they are not alone in their mental health struggles.
